LATIN 103CICEROSNYDER, R.This course seeks to improve a student’s ability to read Latin prose through a close study of Cicero’s Somnium Scipionis and other writings. The course will include reviews of morphological forms and grammar, but its main focus will be on reading Latin prose as accurately and efficiently as possible. To provide a context for these works, we will discuss social and historical issues relevant to Cicero’s time, as well as the philosophical precepts that inform his ideas and the rhetorical and stylistic devices he uses to convey them.
