LATIN 1AFUNDAMENTALSSTAFFThis course is the first quarter of instruction in first year Latin language. We will cover the rudiments of Latin grammar, syntax and vocabulary and will translate simple passages and sentences. Instruction and practice in grammar and vocabulary will alternate every week with the reading of Latin passage. No prerequisites. Daily homework, a weekly quiz, midterm and a final examination.

LATIN 100ALATIN PROSECLAXTON, CThis course will focus upon the fundamentals of Latin prose style and will pay particular attention to the periodic style of Cicero. Cicero\'s first Catilinarian speech will be read as well as selected passages from the works of Caesar. Emphasis will be placed on accurate translation and grammatical understanding. Selected grammatical review will be incorporated into weekly readings. Weekly quizzes, two midterms, final examination, and possible translation project. Prerequisite: at least one year of college-level Latin (Latin 1C), or equivalent; Students with questions about the prerequisite should consult the instructor. This course fulfills the International/Global Studies Breadth requirement (VII-B) as well as the School of Humanities language requirement. Non-majors are most welcome.
