LATIN 1AFUNDAMENTALSCLAXTON, C.This course is the first quarter of instruction in first-year Latin language. We will cover the rudiments of Latin grammar, syntax and vocabulary and will translate simple passages and sentences. Instruction and practice in grammar and vocabulary will alternate every week with reading of Latin passages. No prerequisites. Daily homework, a weekly quiz, midterm and a final examination.

LATIN 100BLATIN POETRYSTAFFSelected readings from Latin poetry with particular emphasis paid to the peculiarities of difficulties of reading Latin poetry, together with an introduction to metrics. Possible authors include Vergil and Ovid. Prerequisite: Latin 1C or equivalent, or consent of the Department.
