| LATIN 100A | LATIN PROSE | CLAXTON, C. | This course will focus upon the fundamentals of Latin prose style and will pay particular attention to the periodic style of Cicero. Cicero's first Catilinarian speech will be read. Selections from the second Catilinarian speech will also be read, if time permits. Emphasis will be placed on accurate translation and grammatical understanding. Selected grammatical review will be incorporated into weekly readings. Weekly quizzes, grammar assignments, two midterms, final examination, and possible translation project. Prerequisite: at least one year of college-level Latin (Latin 1C), or equivalent; Students with questions about the prerequisite should consult the instructor. This course may be used for the School of Humanities language requirement. Non-majors are most welcome.
