| LATIN 100 | CICERO AND CATULLUS | SNYDER, R. | This course seeks to improve a student’s ability to read Latin prose and poetry through close studies of excerpts from Cicero’s De Amicitia and Catullus’ poems. The course will include reviews of morphological forms and grammar, but its focus will be on reading Latin prose and poetry accurately and efficiently. We will discuss social and historical issues relevant to late Republican literature, as well as literary tropes and devices used in these works. To help improve our understanding of poetry as a verbal art, we will also discuss poetic meter and practice the scansion of Latin poetry. |
