LATIN 103CICERO & SALLUSTBLUM, J.This course aims to build skills in reading and interpretation of Latin prose through a close study of Sallust’s Bellum Catilinae and Cicero’s Catilinarian Orations. Class discussions will focus on points of grammar and syntax, as well as the literary issues raised by the text at hand. A portion of class time will also be devoted to grammar review and to developing sight-reading skills with selections from other texts. In addition, we will discuss important themes in these two works, situating both in their historical, cultural, and literary contexts.
