| LATIN 1C | FUNDAMENTALS | PALMER, M. | This course is the continuation of the first year Latin sequence. We will continue to master the fundamentals of Latin grammar and vocabulary, completing the remaining chapters of Wheelock's Latin. Then, we will transition to readings from authentic Latin prose. Coursework will include daily homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and a final exam. Prerequisite: Latin 1B |
| LATIN 104 | SENECA'S LETTERS | ZISSOS, P. | In this course we will read selections from Seneca’s Letters to Lucilius, paying close attention to grammar, syntax, vocabulary and, more generally, the various peculiarities and difficulties of reading Latin prose. We will also consider the philosophical and literary tradition within which Seneca was writing, and the crucial evidence he provides for the life and elite culture of Rome in the early imperial period. (Prerequisite: Latin 100A/B or equivalent, or consent of the department. This course may be repeated for credit as topics vary.) |
