Prerequisite: GREEK 1A. GREEK 1A with a grade of C or better

Restriction: GREEK 1B and GREEK S1AB and GREEK S1BC may not be taken for full credit.
GREEK 99SPEC STUDIES: GREEKSTAFFLower-division level independent research with Greek faculty.

GREEK 103HERODOTUS BOOK 7HERNANDEZ, A.Greek 103 is an upper division language course designed for students who have completed the first year of Greek language study. In this course, students will read book 7 of Herodotus’ Histories which describes the events of the battle of Thermopylae. Despite the Greeks’ defeat, this battle continues to be a cultural focal point, being the subject of several artworks and more recently being adapted by Frank Miller in his graphic novel, 300, and Zack Snyder in his film of the same name.

Throughout the course of the quarter, students can expect regular translation assignments, (bi)weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Lastly, students who have completed more than 2 years of Greek language study will be asked to complete a separate translation project.
