GREEK 103LYSIAS & HERODOTUSKARANIKA, A.The aim of this course is to enhance our reading and interpreting skills of ancient Greek prose and poetry while situating the texts in their historical, literary, cultural and social context. We will read closely selections from Herodotus (focusing on the beginnings of each of the nine books of his Histories) and selections from Plutarch (“On the Malice of Herodotus” and “Dialogue on Love”). Through these texts we will do a review of Greek grammar, but also read and write brief scholarly work on criticism and reception of ancient Greek prose and poetry in post-classical antiquity.
