GREEK 1BFUNDAMENTALSCLAXTON, C.This course is a continuation of first-year Greek and we will complete another five or six chapters of our beginning text book, Learn to Read Greek. Strict attention will be paid to the mastery of forms and syntax and we will also increase our reading skills. Weekly quizzes, midterm, and final examinations. Prerequisite: Greek 1A, equivalent, or permission of instructor. This course will help students fulfill General Education requirement VI (Language Other Than English) as well as the School of Humanities foreign language requirement.
GREEK 99SPEC STUDIES: GREEKSTAFF
GREEK 103LYSIAS AND HERODOTUSKARANIKA, A.The aim of this course is to enhance our reading and understanding skills of ancient Greek prose while situating the texts in their historical, literary, cultural and social context. We will read closely Lysias’ speech on the murder of Eratosthenes (Lysias 1) and selections from Herodotus Book 2. Through these texts we will do a review of Greek grammar, but also read brief scholarly work on Greek rhetoric and historiography.
