GREEK 1BFUNDAMENTALSCLAXTON, C.This course is a continuation of first-year Greek and we will complete another ten or so units of our beginning textbook, Beginning Classical Greek. Strict attention will be paid to the mastery of forms and syntax and we will also increase our reading skills. Weekly quizzes, midterm and final examinations. Prerequisite: Greek 1A, equivalent, or permission of instructor. This course may be used to satisfy the breadth requirement in language (VI) as well as the School of Humanities' foreign language requirement.
GREEK 103PLATO'S SYMPOSIUMKARANIKA, A.The aim of this course is to enhance our reading and understanding skills of ancient Greek prose while situating the texts in their historical, literary, cultural and social context. We will read closely selections from Plato’s Symposium. Through this text we will do a review of Greek grammar, but also read and write brief scholarly work on Platonic dialogue and classical philosophy.
