GREEK 104GREEK POETRYBLUM, J.This course aims to build skills in reading and interpretation of Greek poetry through a close study of selected books of Homer’s Odyssey, one of the defining poems of Greek culture and the Western tradition. Class discussions will focus on points of grammar and syntax, as well as the literary issues raised by the text at hand. A portion of class time will also be devoted to Homeric grammar and the scansion of Greek hexameters. In addition, we will read through the entire Odyssey in translation, and discuss important themes of the work, as well as engage with recent criticism in Homeric studies
