We will also read selected passages from various authors, including Aesop, Xenophon, and Herodotus. Weekly quizzes, midterm, and final examination. Prerequisite: Greek 1B or equivalent.

GREEK 104SOPHOCLES' ANTIGONEKARANIKA, A.The aim of this course is to enhance our reading skills of ancient Greek poetry while situating the text in its historical, literary, cultural, political and social context. We will read closely selections from one of the most important ancient Greek literary works, Sophocles’ Antigone. We will do a review of Greek grammar, but also read and discuss scholarly work on Greek tragedy. This course will offer an in-depth introduction to Sophocles. Grading will depend on class participation, three exams and a brief paper.
