We will also read selected passages from various authors, including Aesop, Xenophon, and Herodotus. Weekly quizzes, midterm, and final examination. Prerequisite: Greek 1B or equivalent.

GREEK 103THE THIRTYCLAXTON, C.After the end of the Peloponnesian War in 404 BCE, Athens was ruled by a brief and brutal oligarchy known as "The Thirty Tyrants" which lasted about fourteen months. In this class, we will explore the primary sources for this time period in Athenian history by reading selections from Aristotle and Xenophon in addition to as much of Lysias XII, Against Eratosthenes, as possible. Special attention will be paid to accurate grammatical understanding, increasing vocabulary and the speed of reading as well as to the historical details of these events. Weekly quizzes, midterm, final examination and possible oral presentation or translation project. Prerequisite: Greek 100A or equivalent, or consent of the instructor.
