KOREAN 1BFUNDAMENTALSLEE, J.This course is opened for those who started learning Korean with no previous experience in the Korean language. The objective of Korean 1A-B-C is to guide students in developing basic Korean language skills. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of written and spoken Korean language. Two textbooks (Korean 1 & practice book: Language Education Institute, Seoul National University) will be used throughout the year. The main textbook aims to develop students’ basic communicative skills in practical, everyday situations whereas the practice book intends to be used in conjunction with the main textbook to complement and to strengthen the acquired vocabulary and grammar in all four areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire basic comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, basic grammatical patterns and sentence structures. 2 Tests and Final (listening and written). Prerequisite: Korean 1A or equivalent.

KOREAN 2BINTERMEDIATECHOE, H.This course is opened for those who started learning Korean with no previous experience in the Korean language. In Korean 2A-B-C series, students are assumed to have previous knowledge of Korean taught in Korean 1A-B-C series. Students in this course will learn further intermediate level skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Korean. Two textbooks will be used throughout the year (Korean 2 & practice book: Language Education Institute, Seoul National University). Some basic Chinese characters are also introduced. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire further comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, more complicated grammatical patterns and sentence structures. The students have good command of Korean in speaking, reading and writing. 2 Tests and Final (listening and written). Prerequisite: Korean 2A or equivalent.

KOREAN 3BADVANCEDHYUN, H.In Korean 3A-3B-3C series, students learn more advanced levels of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Korean. Students in these courses are assumed to have previous knowledge of Korean 2 taught in Korean 2A/2KA through 2C/2KC. The focus will be on advanced grammatical patterns and points toward more complicated sentence structures. Students will read a variety of texts such as modern Korean short stories and write on various topics related to the reading. In doing so, they will learn more about Korean culture, history, and society while learning the language and different forms of literature. Midterm and Final (written). Prerequisite: Korean 3A or equivalent.
