KOREAN 1AFUNDAMENTALSPARK, M.The objective of Korean 1A-B-C is to guide students in developing basic Korean language skills. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of written and spoken Korean language. Two textbooks will be used throughout the year. The Korean language book focuses on the written style and grammar of Korean whereas the course packet focuses on the colloquial form and daily conversation. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire basic comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, basic grammatical patterns and sentence structures. The students also can utilize fundamental commands of Korean in speaking, reading and writing. No prerequisite required. 4 Tests and Final

The students have good command of Korean in speaking, reading and writing. Prerequisite: Korean 1C or equivalent. 3 tests and Final.

KOREAN 3AADVANCEDCHOE, H.In Korean 3A-3B-3C series, students learn further the advanced level of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Korean. Students in these courses are assumed to have previous knowledge of Korean 2 that was taught in Korean 2A through 2C. The focus will be on advanced grammatical patterns and points in more complicated sentence structures. Students will read a variety of texts and write on various topics related to the reading. So they learn more about Korean culture, history, and society while they learn language and different forms of literature. Some basic Chinese characters are introduced. Prerequisite: Korean 2C or equivalent. 3 Tests and Final.
KOREAN 101AFOURTH YEARSTAFFThis is the First course of 4th year Korean series. The course focuses translation of literary works. Among several linguistic skills (Listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc.), this level aims at minute analysis of advanced literary pieces rather than their fast reading. For this, variety of classics of contemporary Korean prose and poetry will be selected. Compared with the winter quarter course that introduced purely lyric pieces, this quarter brings some special and political ones with their background. Midterm and Final. Prerequisite: Korean 3C or equivalent.
