| KOREAN 1C | FUNDAMENTALS | HYUN, H. | The objective of the Korean 1C is to guide students in developing facility in basic Korean. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the written and spoken Korean language. A textbook and three course packets will be used throughout the year. The textbook will focus on the Korean conversational language in the colloquial form of Korean, whereas the course packets will focus on the written form. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire basic comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, grammatical patterns and sentence structures, thereby gaining a fundamental command in speaking, reading and writing in Korean. Students will be given four tests along with an oral and written final exam. prerequisite: Korean 1B or equivalent. |
| KOREAN 2C | INTERMEDIATE | HYUN, H. | The Korean 2C is for students who have previous knowledge of the Korean language. Students in this course will learn to further enhance and apply intermediate level skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Korean. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to communicate and converse on a variety of topic areas, understand and use a range of sentence structures, and write a well-organized expository composition in Korean. A substantial number of basic Chinese characters will also be introduced. Students will be given three tests along with an oral and written final exam. Students will also be engaged in a class project that consists of a typed research paper and an oral presentation due at the end of each quarter.

| KOREAN 3C | ADVANCED | CHOE, H. | The objective of the Korean 3C is to immerse students in the more advanced structures and vocabulary of the Korean language presented within the context of the Korean society. Chinese characters will continue to be introduced to enhance ability to understand written materials. Due to the nature of the language, students will also be reviewing structures learned in previous Korean classes. Students will continue to develop the four language learning skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) on a more advanced level. Students will also continue to develop an appreciation and understanding of the Korean culture with its varied traditions and histories, particularly through classroom discussion and extra reading materials. Three tests and a final written exam will be given. Students will also be engaged in a class project that consists of a typed research paper and an oral presentation due at the end of each quarter.
