KOREAN 1AFUNDAMENTALSSTAFFThe objective of Korean 1A-B-C is to guide students in developing basic Korean language skills. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of written and spoken Korean language. One textbook (King Sejong Institute Practical Korean 1: King Sejong Institute Foundation) will be used throughout the quarter. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire basic comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, basic grammatical patterns, and sentence structures. 2 midterm exams, an oral exam, and a written final exam.
KOREAN 2AINTERMEDIATESTAFFIn Korean 2A-B-C series, students are assumed to have previous knowledge of Korean taught in Korean 1A-B-C series. Students in this course will learn further intermediate level skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Korean. Three textbooks (New Yonsei Korean Vocabulary and Grammar 2-1, New Yonsei Korean Speaking and Writing 2-1, & New Yonsei Korean Listening and Reading 2-1: Yonsei University Language Research and Education Center, Korean Language Institute) will be used throughout the quarter. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to acquire further comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, more complicated grammatical patterns, and sentence structures. 2 midterm exams and a written final exam. Prerequisite: Korean 1C or equivalent.
KOREAN 10LEARN ASSIST PRGMSTAFFThis course is designed for students who wish to be trained in language pedagogical skills by assisting Korean language learners enrolled in Fundamental Korean language classes (K1A-1B-1C).

This course will provide learning assistants with a unique opportunity to gain experience working with language learners in a one-on-one or small group setting while putting their Korean language skills to use. Through this program, learning assistants will support Korean language learners who may need assistance with course work and/or wish to improve their language skills in beginning Korean courses.

Each learning assistant will be responsible for one hour of drop-in mentoring per week. They will help Korean language learners work through problems they encounter while doing coursework, review and reinforce their weekly lessons, consult on papers, and work on oral skills through conversation. All learning assistants will receive ongoing support from the instructor throughout the quarter to ensure the success of their mentoring.

Note: This course is for 'workload credit only'. Students who are placed into Korean 103A or above are eligible to enroll in this course. Please contact Hyunyoung Hyun, Korean Language Coordinator at if you are interested in enrolling.
KOREAN 103AADVANCED KOREANSTAFFIn Korean 103A-B-C series, students learn more advanced levels of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Korean. Students in these courses are assumed to have previous knowledge of Korean 2 taught in Korean 2A through 2C. Three textbooks (New Yonsei Korean Vocabulary and Grammar 3-1, New Yonsei Korean Speaking and Writing 3-1, & New Yonsei Korean Listening and Reading 3-1: Yonsei University Language Research and Education Center, Korean Language Institute) will be used throughout the quarter. The focus will be on advanced grammatical patterns and points toward more complicated sentence structures. Students will learn more about Korean culture, history, and society while learning the language and different forms of literature. A midterm exam and a written final exam. Prerequisite: Korean 2C or equivalent.
