Exploring Global Climate Change

The Climate Futures Collective (CFC) is a study group at UCI focusing on texts critically engaging with topics ranging from decolonization and Indigenous sovereignties to racial capitalism, border policies, grassroots movements, and all their various intersections with global climate change. This group aims to address the current lack of environmental humanities organizations on campus, while also alluding to the history that UCI scientists played in the initial detection and eventual regulation of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), the main chemical agent in the global depletion of the ozone layer.

In addition to organized monthly meetings, the group branches out beyond campus to attend nearby exhibitions, talks, and panels with similar subject matter. On May 1, 2020, CFC will be hosting Fluid Borders, a culminating conference for the 2019-2020 study group, bringing together scholars, activists, and artists from local and global communities. The CFP is due Feb. 20. Please email climatefuturescollective@gmail.com if you are interested in joining and learning about future events.
