Cal Humanities is a non-profit that promotes the humanities in California, inspiring Californians to learn more, dig deeper, and start conversations that matter among our dramatically diverse people.  Cal Humanities requires that grant-funded public projects include a humanities advisor – often a faculty member from a local university.  Humanities advisors for projects can come from a variety of disciplines and subject specializations. Join Felicia Kelley, Senior Program Officer at Cal Humanities, and Amanda Swain, Humanities Commons Associate Director (and formerly Associate Director of Humanities Washington) to learn about opportunities for UCI faculty to engage in public projects as a humanities advisor on grant-funded and other Cal Humanities projects.

Felicia will also provide information about Cal Humanities grant programs, in particular the Community Stories grant program.  Since 2003, the Community Stories has made over 400 awards for public humanities programs that illuminate the California experience through performances, websites, video and radio documentaries, interpretive exhibits and interactive programs of many sorts. Grant funds (up to $10,000) can be used to support research, curatorial, presentation, and dissemination activities. UCI faculty are eligible to apply for grants through Community Stories. All projects must show potential to reach and engage community audiences and must produce a digital-format work product. The next deadline will be Feb. 2, 2015.
