2 DAY WORKSHOP ON MOVEMENT/FICTION/FILM

Film director Alejo Moguillansky and dancer/choreographer/actress Luciana Acuña, who live and work in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will be in residence at UCI for a week and jointly offer a two-day workshop on analyzing and putting into practice various links between movement, dance and film for UCI students. The first session will be a theoretical lecture organized around screenings of various film clips (including, although not exclusively, Jacques Tati, Buster Keaton, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Jerry Lewis, Claire Denis). The second session will put the materials of the first session into practice: working in groups, participants will create bodily choreographies and film them. The session will end with an analysis of the material produced by the various groups.

The workshop will be conducted in Spanish and English (Spanish graduate students will be present to translate as needed) and will be open to all UCI students. Please sign up here in this link for the workshop as space is limited.

Alejo Moguillansky's films have been shown in festivals at Locarno, Berlin, Viennale, and London among other festivals. He has won the award for the best Argentina film (Premio a Mejor Película Argentina) in BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) three times with Castro (2009) y El escarabajo de oro/The Gold Bug(2014) and La vendedora de fósforo/The Little Match Girl (2017). In 2017 he was also the filmmaker chosen to represent Argentina at the Feria Arco in Madrid with a retrospective of all his films. Together with Mariano Llinás, Laura Citarella and Agustín Mendilaharzu he is the founder of the independent film producer El Pampero Cine.We will also be screening his film The Gold Bug (2014).

Luciana Acuña is an actress, dancer, choreographer, and founding member of the avant- garde dance troupe Grupo Krapp. She has performed worldwide, including Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Portugal, New York (Latin Cultural Festival), German (Globalize Cologne). She has also been an artist in residence in Summer Studio PARTS (Brussels 2005), Michigan University (2007/2012), and Colgate University (2008/2012). She has collaborated with and acted in several of her partner, Alejo Moguillansky's, films (including The Gold Bug) and is also a professor of composition and choreography in Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA – Buenos Aires).
