Tracing the Rising Tide of White Supremacy back to the Emmett Till Case

The seminar focuses on the ways that the Emmett Till Case helps to illuminate contemporary expressions of white supremacist violence including mass incarceration, racial profiling, and police brutality. While the Jim Crow era is often obscured by a historiography around nonviolence, the murder of Emmett Till reveals the kind of political order that the right wing hoped to underwrite in that time and in the present.
