Arden / Everywhere: Exploring Food Insecurity through Shakespeare at UCI

New Swan Shakespeare Center     Oct 22 2018 | 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM FRESH Basic Needs Hub

Arden Everywhere

Jessica Bauman is the artistic director of Arden Everywhere, a staging of Shakespeare's As You Like It that incorporates immigrant and refugee stories into a modern retelling of Shakespeare's pastoral comedy.

Jessica Bauman will be in residence at UCI October 20-22. She will work with a group of UCI students affiliated with our FRESH Basic Needs Hub  to create an original theater piece based on their experiences. She will also stage a short scene from Shakespeare's As You Like It with UCI student actors. The workshop will use Shakespeare to address issues of food insecurity in relation to immigration, and will incorporate student narratives into a staged reading / performance. The performance itself will take place in the FRESH Hub space and will launch the School of Humanities’ fundraiser for UCI's food pantry.

Did you know? According to a recent study, 40% of UC students suffer from some level of food insecurity.

FRESH is located at the end of Lot 5 in the Anteater Community Resource Center.
