Leonard Cassuto Faculty Workshop - Mentoring and Advising in a Changing Employment Landscape

In this workshop, humanities faculty will have the opportunity to discuss goals, challenges, and resources for serving as advisors and mentors to graduate students given the current academic job market and varied career paths.  Leonard Cassuto, Professor of English at Fordham University, will lead the workshop, drawing on his research on graduate training in the humanities -- both its history and the contemporary moment.. 

Cassuto received his BA from Columbia University and his PhD from Harvard. He is the author or editor of seven books on American literature and culture. He is also an award-winning journalist who writes on subjects ranging from science to sports, in venues from The New York Times to salon.com. He writes a monthly column for the Chronicle of Higher Education called “The Graduate Adviser." In his book The Graduate School Mess, Cassuto gets to the root of lengthy time to degree and the absymal academic job market and offers concrete solutions for revitalizing graduate education in the humanities.
