 Latin American Studies     May 9 2016 - May 13 2016 | 8:00 AM - 8:00 AM Group and one-on-one meetings.

In the next month of May Ana Niria Albo from CASA DE LAS AMERICAS  in Havana will be at UC Irvine for one week, May 9-13.

Ana Niria Albo is the Assistant Director of the Program for the Study of Latinos in the United States at CASA in Havana.

The Study of Latinos in the United States program at CASA was founded with a mission to explore issues of identity, social conditions,  education, and relations with countries of origin, that affect the growing Latino population in the United States.

As part of her trip in May Ana Niria Albo will be interested in helping organize participation and potential co-sponsorship of CASA’s October 2017 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON LATINOS AND EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES.

Ana Niria is a young sociologist (a PhD candidate, but working professionally in her field already for several years, so with the knowledge, presence and research background of an assistant professor). Her research focuses on the role played by concepts of race, especially blackness and indigeneity, in the identities of latina/o youth; she also
has interests in the undocumented student movement and in issues of educational social justice in general.

Below a brief bio, short documentary, plus pic in attachment.

She will give a presentation at 4pm on Wed. May 11th at UC Irvine. We are filling up her schedule with group and one-on-one meetings, coffee's and lunches.

Please watch below the short documentary Latitudes de Latinidad based on an undergraduate and graduate student trip organized by Dr. Jose Prado from CSU Dominguez Hills, hosted by the Study of Latinos Program at CASA,
last year.
