José R. Cartagena-Calderón is Associate Professor of Spanish at Pomona College and received his Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University. A specialist in early modern Spanish theater, he is the author of Masculinidades en obras: el drama de la hombría en la España imperial (2008) and of numerous articles on the literary and cultural production of Spain and the Americas from the late 15th through the 17th centuries. Professor Cartagena-Calderón is currently working on a book project on the intersection of homoeroticism and the sacred in early modern Spanish literature and the visual arts.
