Reuses of the Erotic: A Symposium On and Beyond Queer Collage

 Humanities Center     Apr 8 2016 | 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1030

Reuses of the Erotic is organized in conjunction with an exhibition at the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries, which brings together works by an intergenerational group of fifteen queer artists who explore the collaged page or the scrapbook with diverse, erotically inclined tactics. The exhibition draws from both archival collections and contemporary practices, focusing on how these artists reuse print culture for worldmaking projects ranging from the era of gay liberation to the present. This symposium seeks to open up new conversations beyond works in the exhibition to capaciously explore their core materials and practices: queer and feminist pornography, collecting, and collaging.
