Maggie Nelson is a poet and critic. She is the author of several nonfiction books and poetry collections, including The Art of Cruelty: A Reckoning, Bluets, and Jane: A Murder. She teaches at CalArts in the School of Critical Studies.

The Argonauts is described by its publisher as "a genre-bending memoir...about desire, identity, and the limitations and possibilities of love and language." Combining theory and autobiography, Nelson tells the story of her relationship with artist Harry Dodge, who is fluidly gendered, and their efforts to raise children amidst the strictures imposed by contemporary constructions of gender, marriage, and queerness. It was selected as a notable book of 2015 by various outlets.
