One Child: The Story of China's Most Radical Experiment

Introduction

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mei Fong will speak about the writing and research that went into her acclaimed new book One Child. A timely and important look at the personal and demographic side of a controversial official campaign, the New Yorker's Evan Osnos has described the book as "a brilliant exploration of China's one-child family policy," while Oxford historian Rana Mitter has hailed it in The Guardian as a "vivid and thoroughly researched" work.

About the Speaker

Mei Fong is the author of the new book One Child: The Past and Future of China’s Most Radical Social Experiment. She worked for over a decade as a foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, winning a shared Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting for her work on China, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and Society of Publishers in Asia.  A graduate of the National University of Singapore, she has an M.A. in international relations from Columbia University. She previously taught at USC's Annenberg School, and she now lives in Washington, D.C., where she is a New America fellow.
