Slavery at the Crossroads of Medical Knowledge and Science

 History     Feb 4 2016 | 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1010

This conference marks the beginning of a partnership between UCI and a range of  scholars who examine how slavery and its legacy have intersected with the production of knowledge about healing, medicine, and natural history. The UCI History Department has a strong commitment to the study of the African Diaspora in the Atlantic World as well as to the History of Science. In coordination with UCI's Group for the Study of Early Cultures, African American Studies, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison's Department of Medical History and Bioethics, this one-day conference examines the possibility of both research and teaching at the intersection of slavery and the history of medicine.
