The Law and Humanities Conversations is a newly-formed interdisciplinary student-faculty discussion group. This year’s theme is inequality. Over the course of several meetings during this school year, with two meetings during Fall Session, we will meet for informal and lively discussions of the Scottsboro Boys case and legal opinions, art, history, literature, music, and social activism that the rape trial generated. Current events have made the legacy of the Scottsboro Boys especially salient and poignant. Discussions will address issues such as racial and economic inequality, old and new movements for social justice, student organizing, lost and found objects, collective memory, inter-generational links between activists then and now, and intersections of intersections of gender, race, class, and geography.
