Tribute to Jose Munoz

 Critical Theory Emphasis     Feb 12 2014 | 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1010

This event celebrates the life and honors the memory of Jose Esteban Munoz. He was a professor at performance studies at Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, and his scholarship contributed to queer theory, critical race studies, and performance studies. His books, Disidentifications: Queers of Color and the Performance of politics and Cruising Utopia: The Then and There of Queer Futurity, broke new ground through their analyses of the relations of art, activism and the experience of queer people of color.

He was scheduled to offer a CTE mini-seminar on February 11-13, 2014.

Christine Balance (UCI), Jack Halberstam (USC), Lucas Hilderbrand (UCI), Arlene Keizer (UCI) and Josh Kun (USC), among others, will discuss influences Munoz had on their lives and work. Bring your own: a passage of a text, a song, edible offerings, photos, whatever you like. Reception to follow.
