Please join us to hear UCI philosophy professor Aaron James discuss his book, Assholes: a Theory. Jane Smiley, in Harper's Bazaar, called the book, “A delightful combination of the demotic and the technical… James gives us some practical advice for confronting assholes, for maintaining self-respect and social position in a world full of them.”

Aaron James is a philosophy professor who thinks, writes, and teaches in ethics and political philosophy. He has written for several academic journals and is the author of the book Fairness in Practice: A Social Contract for a Global Economy. His areas of research include moral theory, political philosophy, and the foundations of ethics (especially re “constructivism”). He dabbles in popular writing, in hopes of contributing to public life in more direct and more entertaining ways. James, an avid surfer, has got ideas for a book about surfing, what it shows about the human condition, the meaning of life, and advanced capitalism. James has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Harvard University. He was awarded the Burkhardt Fellowship by the American Council of Learned Societie, spending the 2009-10 academic year at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.
