Michael Ryan

Wednesday, November 13, 2013
6:00 p.m.
Humanities Gateway 1030

Please join us to hear Michael Ryan, Director of the MFA Program in Poetry, read his poems. As William H. Pritchard wrote in The Nation, Michael Ryan "reminds us on every page that poems can be about lives, and about them in ways most urgent and delicate."

Michael Ryan earned his MFA and PhD at the University of Iowa and taught at Iowa, Princeton University, the University of Virginia, and the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College before joining UCI’s faculty as Professor of English and Creative Writing in 1990. He has published five books of poems, an autobiography, a memoir, and a collection of essays about poetry and writing, for which he won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts, a Whiting Writers Award, the Lenore Marshall Prize, and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. He has also been a finalist for the PEN USA Literary Awards for Creative Nonfiction and for the National Book Award in Poetry. In addition, he has won awards from The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, The Virginia Quarterly Review and the Poetry Society of America, and his work has also appeared in the Atlantic, Harper’s, The Nation, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Poetry, and The Threepenny Review and many other magazines and anthologies. He is Director of the MFA Program in Poetry.

Event is free and open to the public.

Parking is available in Lot 7 for $10.
