Please join us to hear author and alum T. Jefferson Parker '76 read from The Famous and the Dead, the explosive conclusion to his New York Times bestselling Charlie Hood series.

T. Jefferson Parker began his writing career as a reporter for the The Newport Ensign. After covering police, city hall and cultural stories for the Ensign, Parker moved on to the Daily Pilot, where he won three Orange County Press Club awards. Parker's first novel, Laguna Heat, made The New York Times Bestseller list and was made into an HBO movie.

Parker's following novels—all dealing with crime, life and death in Southern California—were praised and appeared on many bestseller lists. The Washington Post, called The Triggerman’s Dance "a masterpiece." Where Serpents Lie and The Blue Hour spent five weeks on the L.A. Times bestseller list. Red Light and Silent Joe were number one on that list and Silent Joe went on to win the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best Novel and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Best Mystery/Thriller. Cold Pursuit was named Novel of the Year by the Southern California Booksellers Association and California Girl won Parker his second Best Novel Edgar.

Parker's recent novels, L.A Outlaws, The Renegades, Iron River, The Border Lords and The Jaguar feature protagonist Charlie Hood, a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy "on loan" to a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms task force working the illegal gun trade along the U.S. Mexico border. Parker earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of California, Irvine, in 1976.
