The School of Humanities Author Series presents

Barry Siegel

Tuesday, April 30, 2013
6:00 p.m.
Humanities Gateway 1030

Barry Siegel is a Pulitzer Prize winning former national correspondent for the Los Angeles Times and the author of seven books, including four volumes of narrative nonfiction and three novels set in imaginary Chumash County on the central coast of California. Siegel earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from Pomona College. After considering film school, he enrolled at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he earned a master's degree. He began at the Los Angeles Times in 1976 as a staff writer in the features section and in 1980 became a roving national correspondent, pursuing a self-created assignment that involved no fixed beat, no relation to breaking news, and no time or space constraints. In 2003, Siegel left the Los Angeles Times to join the English department and become the founding director of the literary journalism program at UC Irvine.

Please join us to hear Barry Siegel discuss his book, Manifest Injustice, the true story of convicted murderer Bill Macumber and the lawyers who fought for his freedom.

Event is free and open to the public.
