VISITING LECTURER
FERNANDO J. LOPEZ DEL OSO

“Ciencia y ficción:
Cuando la frontera se diluye”

Fernando J. López del Oso will be speaking about science fiction in Spain and the
process of writing a complex novel.

López del Oso’s first novel, El templo de la luna, won the prestigious Minotauro
award for best science fiction/fantasy novel in 2009. His subsequent novel, Yeti,
was published by Editorial Minotauro in 2011. He is a geneticist by training, a
spelunker by avocation. He has led “adventuring” trips to Peru, Namibia, Jordan,
Brazil, Kenya, and other exotic locales. He has also written two nonfiction books,
La sexta extinción and Un viaje mágico por Egipto.

The author’s father, Fernando Jiménez del Oso, was famous throughout Spain for
his over 800 television documentaries and various magazines (Más Allá de la
Ciencia,  Enigmas del hombre y del Universo) investigating the paranormal; López
del Oso collaborated on a number of these projects, including filming and
production of a few of the shows and writing a regular column for Enigmas.
