Fred Moten Mini Seminar - "Just Friends"

 Critical Theory Emphasis     Nov 5 2012 | 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1030

In the past decade, the most exciting and generative advance in critical theory, which is to say black critical theory, is the announcement and enactment of afro-pessimism in the work of of Frank G. Wilderson, III and Jared Sexton. How can anyone in anyplace where thinking is important--let alone in what Jacques Derrida acknowledged to be the capital of the state of theory--not seek to understand the relation of his own thought to this massive and undeniable irruption? "Just Friends" is an attempt at such an understanding that will gesture, ultimately, hopefully, towards an optimistic misunderstanding of blackness as the statelessness of theory.
