Benedict Anderson Koehn Lecture

 Critical Theory Emphasis     Oct 12 2012 | 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1030

Aaron L. Benenkorb Professor Emeritus of International Studies, Government and Asian Studies at Cornell University. Presenting the Koehn Lecture titled, "Monarchies in the Age of Nationalism". Cosponsored by the Center for Asian Studies, Critical Theory institute, and the Departments of Comparative Literature, East Asian Language and Literature, English and History.

The talk will reflect upon the current condition of the monarchies across the planet. Professor Anderson will ask through a global comparison of various monarchies, why some ruling families have survived while some have crashed. By probing the reasons behind sustaining power of monarchies even at an age where globalization and democracies have prevailed, he will reconceptualize nationalism that has proven to be malleable and not irrelevant.
