Humanities Dean’s Welcome

Event Location: HIB 100 – Freshmen; HG 1800 – Transfer students

The School of Humanities Dean’s Welcome will take place immediately following New Student Convocation. Freshmen will meet in HIB 100 and transfer students in Humanities Gateway 1800.

Humanities Alumni Career Panel

Date and Time: September 24, 2012 - 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Event Location: 1030 Humanities Gateway

So you’re a Humanities major…now what? Hear from Humanities alumni who’ve gone on to prominence in their chosen fields. From writing to the film industry, find out why a degree in the Humanities means endless possibilities. Panelists include:

- JEAN ARDELL (‘88, English) Journalist and author of Breaking into Baseball: Women and the National Pastime

- BRIDGET COOKS (’96 Art History) Art history and African American studies professor, UC Irvine

- T. JEFFERSON PARKER (’76, English) New York Times bestselling crime novelist

The event will be moderated by Lucas Hilderbrand, assistant professor of film and media studies.

Undergraduate History Orientation

Date and Time: September 25, 2012 – 10:30 a.m.

Event Location: Murray Krieger Hall 126

At this session led by the Department of History’s Undergraduate Program Director, new history majors and transfers will be introduced to the department’s requirements, given advice on successfully progressing through the program, and meet other new history majors. Attendance is strongly recommended.

Humanities Peer Mentor/Mentee Match-Up

Date and Time: September 26, 2012 - 1:30 pm

Event Location: Humanities Gateway 1010

Humanities freshpeople who have chosen to participate in the Humanities Peer Mentor Program get information about the program and make sure all their questions are answered. They then meet their mentors and get started on a successful first year at UCI. (Please come as close to on time as possible!)
