The Department of History and Literary Journalism Program are pleased to announce a two-day visit to UCI by Adam Hochschild, one of the country's most celebrated authors of deeply researched general interest books, ranging from abolitionism to colonialism to World War I.  Hochschild, a professor of journalism at UC Berkeley, co-founded Mother Jones and has written for venues such as Harper’s and TIME. Don't miss the chance to hear the author of acclaimed works such as King Leopold's Ghost, Bury the Chains, and, most recently, To End All Wars. Both events are free and open to the public.

Hochschild will be a guest speaker in a large team-taught History Department course on "Global Protest," for which Latin Americanist Alex Borucki is the main instructor.  Hochschild will discuss and answer questions from the audience about his work on abolitionism, as well as other subjects.  Students in the class will be reading http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2004/01/against-all-odds and http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2007/jun/14/english-abolition-the-movie/?pagination=false.
