about gender, race, family, and everyday life. Caitlin Flanagan (Girl Land, To Hell
with All That: Loving and Loathing Our Inner Housewife) is a contributing editor to
The Atlantic Monthly. Her most recent book explores the inner lives of young girls.
Flanagan’s articles have sparked national debates about motherhood, class, and
the future of feminism. Benjamin Schwarz is the Literary and National Editor for
The Atlantic. He writes articles and reviews on issues ranging from popular culture
to international economics. Formerly a policy analyst for the RAND Corporation,
Schwarz has also worked at the Brookings Institution and served as Executive
