Distinguished Writing Lecture Series

Sponsored by the Office of the UCI Campus Writing Coordinator

The Distinguished Writing Lecture Series celebrates outstanding contributions to UCI's "culture of writing" by
selecting excellent writers from across the disciplines to lecture about their craft. This series will run for three
consecutive years; three different honorees, chosen by the Office of the Campus Writing Coordinator, will deliver
lectures about their writing lives.

The seventh Distinguished Writing Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Michelle Latiolais, UCI Professor of English.

Lecture: Spa Treatment: Characterization in the Twenty-First Century.

Honoree BIO: Michelle Latiolais is a Professor of English at the University of California at Irvine. She is the author
of the novel Even Now which received the Gold Medal for Fiction from the Commonwealth Club of California. Her
second novel, A Proper Knowledge, was published in 2008 by Bellevue Literary Press. She has published writing
in three anthologies, Absolute Disaster, Women On The Edge: Writing From Los Angeles and Woof! Writers on
Dogs. Her stories and essays have appeared in Zyzzyva, The Antioch Review, Western Humanities Review, and
the Santa Monica Review. Most recently she had work in issues of the Iowa Review and the Northwest Review.
Widow, a collection of stories, Involutions and essays, was released in January 2011 from Bellevue Literary Press.
