While the self confidence of the USA, and American values seem to be intact, Europe demonstrates a need to permanently reinvent itself. Crisis has become a faithful companion to the member states of the European Union and those knocking on her doors to join a club of un-integrable parts. How far can Euro-pean integration go? While skepticism rules, Europe stubbornly appears to succeed, not only because it has no alternative, but also due to a remarkable skill for balancing competing self-images and clashing interests.
