Publicity Resources
Listed below are the different outlets and forums to publicize news and events within the School of Humanities and at UCI more broadly.School of Humanities
- Events digest - Every Friday, we send an email to everyone in the SOH with a list of upcoming events, two-weeks out. The events are pulled directly from the SOH events calendar. A best practice is to insert your event’s details into the events calendar at least two weeks before the day of the event. This will ensure adequate time to publicize.
- Monthly e-newsletter - At the end of each month, an email compilation of feature stories, faculty in the news and upcoming events gets sent across the campus via Zotmail. The e-newsletter does not include an exhaustive list of events and news item for the month, but does point to the SOH events and news pages.
- Humanities.uci.edu - The school’s homepage features the latest news, events, announcements and stories relating to the school. Additional components include a press release section (under the About drop-down menu) and a media section (under the Faculty drop-down menu). Press releases and spotlight items are geared to both an internal and external audience (alumni, donors, community, media), so stories featured in those sections are selected carefully.
- School of Humanities’ social media - Social media is a great way to share events and news with a relevant audience. The school has Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages that are continually updated.
- Departmental websites - Departmental websites spotlights are an excellent place to feature staff, faculty and student awards, grants, events and news.
- UCI “In the News” - UCI "In the News" is a daily compilation of news items where faculty have been featured or quoted & it’s emailed to the entire campus, every morning. Strategic Communications uses a third-party service to alert them to any mention of UCI in the media, but news items often get missed. If you are aware of a faculty member having been quoted or featured (or if she/he/they authored a piece) in the news, please email Annabel. Keep in mind that UCI only pulls in about 25% of the daily media hits each day; they prioritize mainstream outlets with higher readerships; and any story must include the professor's UCI affiliation for it to be considered.
- UCI Today - UCI Today is a master calendar of upcoming events at UCI. If you have an event that appeals to a larger demographic, submit it to the UCI calendar by clicking “Events submissions.”
- KUCI – Should a media outlet wish to interview you for a story, using an ISDN line is preferable over a regular phone line. KUCI offers studio time, should the media outlet be local and want to interview you on campus, as well as ISDN lines for phone interviews. KUCI charges $120.00 per hour, Mon-Fri between 8 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. Pacific time. (Arrangements can also be made to schedule outside of these normal hours). Weekday rentals before 8 A.M. are also available at no extra charge but availability may be limited. $140.00 per hour for studio usage scheduled for evenings or weekends.
