In her talk to nearly two hundred people at the Beckman Center, including over fifty local high school students, New York Times opinion columnist Theresa Brown discussed her experiences with hospital and hospice nursing since making a career change from an English professor to a nurse. Her presentation addressed various hidden aspects of nursing such as doctor-nurse relations, hospital hierarchies, and the ways that life altering treatment decision get made. In addition to her talk, Brown signed copies of her recent books Critical Care and The Shift during the pre-talk reception. You can watch a recording of her lecture here.
