Event Details

On January 27, 2016, to a large interdisciplinary audience gathered at the University Club Library, Drama professor Anthony Kubiak discussed the difference between how traditional and mainstream healers engage placebo response. He suggested that the positive effects of traditional healing performances are perhaps a deeply intuitive but direct engagement with the placebo response. This lecture, titled “Performing the Double Blind: Theater as Placebo/Placebo as Theater” was a part of the Medical Humanities Initiative’s Works-in-Progress series, where faculty from around campus have the opportunity to showcase their research projects dealing with the intersection of medicine, arts, and the humanities to an interdisciplinary audience.
