The story behind the story: When Professor Wilentz asked our class to brainstorm ideas for our personal essay, I tried to think of something, anything, to write about other than this. But like she said, how could I NOT write about this? The year my dad got cancer and passed away is the before-and-after marker in my life. And it's sort of poetic that this piece was my very last assignment for college, the last thing I turned in before graduating and becoming a bona fide "adult." It wasn't only a eulogy for my dad; it was a eulogy for my childhood. |
