VaughnI once heard someone say that the universe isn't made of atoms, but stories. The best part of studying Literary Journalism was getting the chance to unearth ordinary peoples' stories and express them. Everyone is fascinating if only you give them a chance. In the future I hope to use the power of narrative and language to change the world in even more tangible ways, doing Public Relations or Marketing for a creative nonprofit.

The story behind the story: I never thought that any part of my life was really worth telling stories about. That is until Amy Wilentz's Personal Essay Workshop. I was scared to death: of the class, of Amy, of the subject matter, but even so I wrote something and tried to make it as honest as I could. "My Father's Keeper" is my best attempt to understand how and why I love my father even as we grow in different directions.
