Tempesta

Jillian Tempesta is a 2012 graduate of the Literary Journalism program at UC Irvine. She is currently collecting anecdotes and story ideas at a day job while plotting her next post-grad move.

The story behind the story:
I wrote The Lime Light for Amy Wilentz's workshop on place writing. The idea of a temporary stage that had no physical borders appealed to me as a writer, while hanging out around food trucks appealed to me as a college student. A food truck can make a town almost urban by obscuring a parking lot with a take-out spectacle: a little more communal, a little less planned. Watching Irvine on its lunch break from a food truck window turned into an inverted way of writing about the city itself.
